In 1996, Cedar Community, West Bend, WI, developed the nation’s first care facility specifically designed to serve those with memory loss. Today, 5.4 million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s disease and by 2050, up to 16 million will be afflicted. To address this alarming trend, Cedar Community committed to building an innovative, state-of-the-art Memory Care facility designed specifically for this growing population.
HRR conducted a comprehensive pre-campaign feasibility study for Cedar Community to determine the levels of gifts needed and assess potential of a $3.7 million campaign goal. Following HRR’s recommendation that Cedar move forward on the project, our consultants designed and directed a capital campaign that exceeded its goal by more than $1 million.
Cedar Community has successfully built the Cottages at Cedar Run, a highly acclaimed facility addition that has garnered praise nationwide. Touted as “The Best Memory Care Design in the World,” this innovative and, most importantly, replicable model draws on the latest and best ideas of European and American leaders on the study/care of Alzheimer’s and dementia-related illness. All 60 of the new eco-friendly living spaces are fully occupied and plans are now underway for the Cottages II, a second phase of housing at Cedar Community.
