As Executive Vice President of Holmes, Radford & Avalon, Steve helps 501(c)(3) organizations
develop and secure financial resources to achieve their visions and their goals.
He joined HRA in 1999, bringing with him more than 25 years of experience in organizing and
leading capital campaigns, major gift developments and annual fund solicitation for a host of
nonprofit organizations, including Big Brothers & Big Sisters, The University Of Missouri,
and the YMCA of Greater St. Louis, where Steve served as Vice President of Development.
Steve believes that a fundamental element of effective fund raising is “finding the right
person to ask the right prospect at the right time.” To that end, he devotes much of his
time mentoring board members and other executives with nonprofit groups to help them become
successful participants in the fund raising process for their institutions.
A certified fund raising executive (CFRE), Steve also is a long-standing member of the
Association of Fund Raising Professionals. He earned his bachelor’s degree in history from
the University of Missouri-St. Louis and a master’s degree in urban planning from Saint
Louis University.
Steve and his wife, Mary, live in suburban St. Louis and are the parents of a daughter and
two sons. Family and community are at the center of Steve’s personal life and interests,
which also include sports, rare books, history and travel.
